The Tidal Pool has been a long time favourite facility at the West Braes of Pittenweem. It has been enjoyed for decades by the local community and originally boasted a spring board, chute and pontoon, but had fallen into disrepair after the local authority were no longer able to maintain it and marked it unsafe.

There was also an 18 hole crazy golf course that was saved by the project and this is supported by local businesses sponsoring holes by advertising and painting their hole. The west facing bench at the shelter was also rescued and reinstated, much to the appreciation of locals who had used it to watch the world go by for a lifetime.
The West Braes tidal pool has been extensively refurbished after years of decline and lack of maintenance. The side access and retaining walls were repaired and the end dam wall was strengthened with a new valve fitted to allow emptying for maintenance. We had steps repaired and additional hand rails installed right down to the beach.

The side access and retaining walls were repaired and the end dam wall was strengthened with a new valve fitted to allow emptying for maintenance. We had steps repaired and additional hand rails installed right down to the beach. The original Victorian terraces were made accessible and a terrace with benches and coat hooks reinstated. A ramp which was built by the contractor was retained and future work is underway to improve wheeled access to the beach and level access to the right hand side of the pool.

Fun for all the family.

The West Braes Project is responsible for the upkeep of a slice of land, cliff, beach and sea that we lease from Fife Council. To achieve this we raise funds through various activities throughout the year along with our 'Hut' serving hot and cold drinks and snacks to swimmers, coastal path walkers and anyone who wants to pass the time of day with our volunteers.
One off payments can be made through our PayPal link below, but if you wish to make a regular payment, please request our bank info.

We love our visitors, so feel free to stop by on your Fife Coastal Path walk for a chat and refreshment, or after your swim in the tidal pool. Stay safe, swim with a friend. The pool is totally submerged at high tides and the water can be rough at these times.
